Developer Steve Blanchard set out to build one of the greenest homes in Orange County, and he may just have accomplished that. In fact, this home, the Costa Mesa Green Home, is the first custom residence in the OC to receive LEED Platinum certification. Although 5,000 square feet in size, the home exceeds California Energy Code by 40% and isn't expected to generate an electricity bill outside of standard add-on fees.
A design for the new Los Angeles NFL stadium is in the works and it is set to be the first NFL stadium ever to become LEED certified. Designed by Aedas, a global architecture firm, the Los Angeles Stadium might be finished as early as the 2011 football season, although what NFL team will make its home there is still unknown.
The developer of the world's tallest building, which finally opened Jan. 4 in Dubai after more than a year's delay, has announced the height at 828 meters. The announcement ends years of speculation, fueled by developer Emaar Properties. Members of the design and construction team, including architect-engineer Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and lead contractor Samsung Corp., were contractually obligated to keep the height a secret.
Text size: A ADan Klingberg, president of Joliet, Ill.-based T.J. Lambrecht Construction Co., took control of the world’s first diesel-electric bulldozer and says he will put it to use on a project at O’Hare International Airport next month.
Klingsberg took the keys from Caterpillar Inc.’s Vice Chairman and CEO-Elect Douglas R. Oberhelman on Dec. 22 at the manufacturer’s East Peoria tractor plant and the bulldozer was specially gift-wrapped with a bright red bow. The delivery took place among more than 200 Cat employees who had a hand in building the new D7E.
